Jet Ski Life of Charleston's owner, Laura Newkirk, has suffered her entire life with Muscular Dystrophy (MD) and has had a number of medical problems related to MD. As a child she was made fun of because of how she walked, because she couldn't run, and because she tripped and fell quite oftern. As an adult to help understand her disease progression and also to speak to others with her same problems, she reached out to the Muscular Dystrophy Association back in 2012 just after her son was born. She did a few talks at fundraisers MDA had in Charleston and she appeared on a few TV segments called the "MDA Show of Strength" on Labor Day in 2012. Now that her son is 9 years old, and also has a love of Jet Skiing like she does, she wants to introduce him to how helpful MDA can be to the community. Laura also wants to help raise awareness in Charleston with the Charleston Invasion by welcoming Jet Ski Clubs from up and down the East Coast, West Coast and Midwest.
